Interior Design: Helping You Find Your Harmony | ej-fransen.com

You come home, you?re stressed with your job, you?re stressed with the cat, and you?re pretty much stressed about everything right now because it?s been one of those days. The last thing you want to come home to is a sink full of dishes and a disorganised living space. Don?t even look at ?that? table you hate. A lot of people might not realise it, but your living space is extremely important to the functionality of the rest of your life.

Take?Horizon Media ? New York?as an example; they?ve been voted No. 5 in the World?s best office interiors. They wanted a new office space to bring their staff together and increase interaction; so they had the vision and took the leap. With their improved working space, they were a lot happier in their roles and you whilst your workplace may not be so invested, you can transform your living space.

Think Feng Shui ? It was originally used to orient buildings, but seeing as you can?t change how your house has been built now, you can completely focus on turning the inside into your own personal haven.

Where do you start?

If you want to tackle your whole house, then so be it. But don?t stress yourself too much by taking too much on at a time. A good first step is starting with whichever room is your living room or perhaps even a family room:

  • Where to start? Start with the room you spend most time in.

So you?ve got your first task, deciding on a place to start is often stressful. A lot of people decorating or changing their homes often ask whether I think it?s beneficial enough to bring in a professional to decorate your home. This brings me to my next step:

  • Will you complete this by yourself/with a partner or will you need outside help?

Be honest with yourself: If you make a start on this alone, will you see it through to the end? Your inner harmony isn?t going to be settled by a room or task half finished; it will just end in frustration.

It?s important to know what it will cost. Do not stress yourself if you cannot afford the wallpaper you want; research a cheaper alternative. Do not of course mistake this with compromising on your vision, but in the real world, you need to keep within confines of a budget so you can ensure you finish your room.

  • Colour schemes and lay outs

You need to have a vision, and hopefully your budget has put this in perspective for you. Choosing a colour scheme should only come after you have decided on the room and looked at your budget. After all you probably wouldn?t decorate your bathroom in the same colours as your bedroom. Don?t change colour choices half way through or you may end up with a confused scheme at the end.

How do you carry on?

You?ve hit a brick wall, maybe not a literal one; the vision you started with deserted you last night and you?re back to unsettled and unhappy in your home.

  • Get back on track ? remember why you were completing this in the first place

Remember the night you came home and decided you needed a change? Remember that the wall colour was driving you to tears? Focus is your number one goal during the re-invention; focus on the reasons for the change and persevere with the project. Maybe now is the time to call in the help or the cavalry.

  • Is it time for professional help?

Have you lost your vision? Is it time to bring in those art consultants or the Feng Shui guys who do this for a living? Again, be honest with yourself; you?re not failing by needing help, and you can?t sit your guests in the Kitchen for the rest of your life.

  • Add your finishing touches

No one can force you to finish your project, but by staying focused and being methodical you should now be arriving at putting in your finishing touches. Whether you got in the art consultancy to help or not, you can put in your own personal touches now in the form of furniture or art work. This may be the time you want to get in an interior designer to help you look for the best pieces. Make your hard work sing louder by stamping your mark on the room

You?ve finished after days, weeks or maybe months of hard work. Harmonious living areas will help your general well-being, and why not? The time we don?t spend at work we spend at home, so comfort and happiness is important in your surroundings. Just try not to change your mind when you watch the home improvement programs and decide you prefer that lilac to the natural?colors?you?ve spent 3 months working on.
