Live coverage of Microsoft?s Worldwide Partners Conference

Microsoft Corp. welcomes thousands of employees and corporate partners from more than 150 countries to Toronto today as part of its annual Worldwide Partner Conference, the largest gathering of the year for the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant.

Update 9:54 a.m.: Microsoft corporate vice president of Windows, Tami Reller, said the company plans to release Windows 8 to manufacturers in the first week of August, and that consumers will be able to get their hands on devices running Windows 8 in late October.

Update 9:45 a.m.: Mr. Ballmer says that Microsoft is ?reimagining? Windows with the launch of Windows 8 later this year.??Windows is the heart and soul of Microsoft. If you go to YouTube, you can see video of me yelling Windows often and loudly.? Mr. Ballmer said estimates are that 375 million new Windows PCs will be sold in the next 12 months.

Update 9:35 a.m.:?Microsoft announces the launch of the Office 365 Open program for its partner companies. The new service will allow resellers to own the top line revenue from sales of Office 365, and to bill customers directly, an announcement that drew big applause from the attendees in Toronto on Monday.

Update 9:30 a.m.: Mr. Ballmer says the response to the company?s online Office 365 software is ?exploding? and that Windows 8 is ?simply the biggest deal? from Microsoft in 17 years, or pretty much since the launch of Windows 95.

Update 9:25 a.m.: Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer takes to the stage and tells the assembled crowd that 2012 will be an ?epic? year for the world?s largest software company.

Update 9:16 a.m.: Microsoft VP of worldwide partner sales and marketing Jon Roskill kicks off the event, talking about how Microsoft and its partners are ?getting it right,? and that they are ?on to something big.? Mr. Roskill says the company has been underestimated, and that the company will be recognized as the leaders in cloud-based business software.

Update 9:12 a.m.: Microsoft kicks off Mr. Ballmer?s keynote with a 10-minute performance from Cirque de Soleil, complete with drummers, dancers, singers and twirling fire batons.

Update 8:58 a.m.:?The lower bowl of the Air Canada Centre in Toronto is nearly full, as are about half of the corporate boxes for this morning?s keynote, which will feature Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
