Behavioral Interview ? Behavioral interview for human resources ...

Even the human resource pros need help with a behavioral interview, particularly for those that are new to HR roles.

First of remember that your behavioral interview will be looking to examine your behaviors AND your technical competency in HR issues. As with all behavioral interviews your interviewer will ask you questions bout your past experiences to identify both the positive and negative behaviors that you may have demonstrated.

That questioning will come in the form of a series of laddered question.

HR professionals can exist as part of a team, as a business partner or as a sole operative. Even in large organisations HR is often one of the first to be cut along with the marketing department! Professionals are expected to perform many functions including the delivering of change projects.

Key behaviors for a HR professional

Information gathering ? investigations, policy, pay, resourcing, aligning to future business plans

People development ? its not just about the application of policy, it?s also helping the organisation grow and develop through the success of its people. This can include having an idea for the future changes to work patterns, a connected society, social media etc

Communication ? every which way ! With the employee, the line manager, the department head, business owner, HR management chain, external stakeholders and policy advisors

Collaboration ? as with communication HR role holders have to be able work well with many different stakeholders to get the job done from advertising and communication through to the board and senior management.

Influencing ? ensuring HR policy is followed and helping to guide employees through personal development and process is important. Management often don?t see the value in HR functions which are often seen as blockers their change ambitions. influencing these stakeholders is vital to successful deliver.

Team work ? both in the HR team and within the business, your likely to operate in an environment where you are helping teams and departments either stay compliant or change

Role specific HR skills

Policy and strategy creation (including talent programmes, dispute polices)

Employee and discrimination law including race, sex, disability

Profile development and job profiling

Work life and organisational plans

Employee Benefits Schemes, HR management systems

Recruitment platforms and process

Succession planning, reward and performance schemes and remuneration models

Behavioral interview questions for a human resources professional

Tell me about an occasion when you have to investigate a HR policy breach ? How did you develop an understanding of the problem ? How did you ensure you had all the information hat you needed ? What steps did uptake to understand policy ? What was the outcome ?

Describe a time when yo had to develop an understanding of future business strategy ? How did you understand the implications for human resources ? How did you ensure HR requirements where considered ? What was the result ?

Tell me about a time when the business change required your support ? How did you engage with the relevant stakeholders ? How did you ensure the change was appropriately resourced ? How was HR policy changed or did it require interpretation ? Would you do anything differently next time ?
