Pecos Valley cross country championships on tap
Chaves County student athletes are invited to compete in two-year age groups based upon their school classification on a 2-kilometer cross country course. The event is open to all Chaves County students from third grade up to eighth grade.
The top 10 in each age division will receive ribbons and could qualify for a team spot at the Regional Junior Olympic Championships which will be held in Albuquerque Nov. 17.
Third and fourth grade boys will start at 4 p.m. on the new Gateway Warrior track, followed by third and fourth grade girls at 4:15 p.m. with awards following at 4:30 p.m. Fifth and sixth grade boys and girls will start at 4:45 and 5 p.m. respectively with their awards presented at 5:15 p.m.. The seventh and eighth grade athletes will begin at 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. with the final awards being presented at 6 p.m.

Halloween festivities planned
Halloween night, Oct. 31, Roswell Parks & Recreation will be having their annual Fall Festival from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. at the Roswell Civic Center, 912 N. Main.
There will be lots of fun and games and is free and open to the public.
There will be live entertainment, inflatable jumpers, game booths and candy.? Please come join the fun and remember to be safe when attending local Halloween and fall festivities.

Yucca Center basketball registration set
The Yucca Recreation Center is holding basketball registration Nov. 1?through Nov. 30 for boys and girls ages 9-10. ?Registration for boys and girls 11-13 will be held Nov. 1-Dec. 21.
The child must be of school age by Sept. 1. First time players will need to bring a birth certificate to verify age.
All children are required to play two quarters per game. The cost is $30 for the first child and $25 for each additional child.
The Yucca Recreation Center is located at 500 South Richardson. For more information, call 624-6719.

Pecos Valley Roundup coming
The 27th annual Pecos Valley Roundup run and walk is set for Nov. 3 at 8 a.m. at Cahoon Park.
The event features a 20K run, a 10K run and walk and a 2 mile run and walk.
The entry fee is $15 and all participants receive a long-sleeved T-shirt.

Guns and Hoses volleyball match scheduled
The annual Guns and Hoses volleyball tournament, featuring a Roswell vs. Goddard alumni match followed by the police vs. firefighters, is set for 5 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Goddard HIgh Gym.
Organizers are still looking for alumni players from both Goddard and Roswell, and invite any grads to contact Sheri Gibson at contact 840-8180.
Tickets for the doubleheaders $5 and can be bought from Rocket volleyball players or purchased at the door.
