Just by merely looking at the facade of the building where K??eba?? is, I got the impression that this restaurant will not to be ignored. And it shouldn?t be. It looks stylish, elegant, and expensive. I wouldn?t expect any thing less inside the restaurant known as one of Istanbul?s best kebab places.

The set menu during Ramadan was probably the greatest way to enjoy K??eba???s food because it offered a sampler of the restaurant?s signature sides and dishes. My friend and I thought we had to pick from the menu handed to us. Turns out everything, apart from the drinks, was included in the SR139 per person bill. And even if Ramadan this year is over, the dishes are still in the menu, this time in their more generous proportions.

The food in K??eba?? is meant to be shared. I don?t think you?ll enjoy eating such communal dishes alone. I cannot imagine myself asking for bread and dipping them in humus, babagannus, and kabak salatasi (zucchini with dill) and polishing the plates clean all by myself. The humus was slightly sour and the babagannus was smothered with yogurt, different takes on the versions I?ve tried in other Turkish restaurants before.

Because I?m not a salad person, I shied away from the Toros Salata, a mix of fresh rocket, parsley, green onion and mint; the greenness of it all was a stark contrast to our immaculate plate. My friend asserts that she enjoyed it immensely. Not much can be told about the Coban Salata (tomato and cucumber with lemon juice dressing). It was ordinary, almost unnecessary. The appetizer of dolma (cooked capsicums stuffed with rice and meat) and Icle Kofte (boiled meatballs) were new to us. They were savory; the flavors too strong for our untrained, newbie palates. When we got to the traditional pidettes, they were slightly cold already but still tasty.

Done with the starters, it was the kebabs (mixed grill) that took our undivided attention; deservedly so. The meat kebab was juicy, the beef slices tender and the shish taouk soft and fresh. It was the turkish bread that lacked character. It was dry and bland but who needs the bread when the kebabs are delicious on their own? The meats were of high quality and undoubtedly, this is the best plate of mixed grill I?ve ever had in Riyadh (I haven?t tasted a lot but still?). With its higher than usual price, the meat kebabs delivered wonderfully.

If you want to go a notch higher in your kebab experience in the city, go to K??eba??. The service is excellent, the restaurant is appropriately-designed, and the food is good. Call and reserve a table first before going to avoid waiting.
